How will travelling back across eight time zones affect the big two in the European Grand Prix at Slaley Hall? Certainly, as far as the betting is concerned, Lee Westwood and Darren Clarke seem to be in a different class: the Englishman is a 7 to 2 favourite with the Irishman at 5 to 1.
Westwood has certainly bounced back to form after his early-season woes when he seriously considered taking a break from tournament play. In his last four tournaments, Westwood has finished first-second-fourth-fifth which makes him a worthy favourite and good bet for this week's tournament.
Although Clarke headed to California in high spirits after his successful defence of the English Open, his performance in Pebble Beach was a bit of a blow to his spirits - and a more upbeat Westwood is the more likely to dominate in England's north-east.
As far as each-way options go, Welshman David Park secured his first tour win on this very track last year. Despite some indifferent form so far this season, Park's odds of 25 to 1 are rather appealing.
