Irish touring car driver suspended after failing doping control test

Garreth Hayden tested positive for a metabolite of cocaine after Mondello Park race

Motorsport Ireland and Sport Ireland have announced that Irish touring car racer Garreth Hayden has been suspended for 15 months after failing a doping control test for a metabolite of cocaine.

Hayden’s suspension is backdated to July 6th, when he was was provisionally suspended by Motorsport Ireland.

A statement released on behalf of Motorsport Ireland and Sport Ireland outlined the findings of the Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel.

“In a doping control test immediately following his participation at the Irish Touring Car Championship in Mondello Park, he [ Hayden] provided a sample which tested positive for the presence of a prohibited substance, Benzoylecgonine (a metabolite of cocaine). Mr Hayden’s results from the 7th of June 2015 are also disqualified.”
