Giro d’Italia announce route details for three stages in Ireland

The full race route for the 2014 Giro d’Italia 2014, including its Grand Partenza from Ireland was announced in Milan on Monday afternoon.

Three stages of the Grand Tour event will be held in Ireland from Friday May 9th to Sunday May 11th , the first two starting and finishing in Belfast, before stage three from Armagh to Dublin.

Stage one will be a 21.7 kilometre team time trial in Belfast on Friday 11th, with riders also taking in the grounds of Stormont Castle.

Stage 3 will start in Armagh, moving through Louth and Meath and finishing in Dublin’s Upper Merrion Street.

Stage two will see the peloton head inland through Antrim up to the north coast, hugging the sea on the way back to Belfast, a total of 218km.

The caravan will them move to Armagh for the start of stage three on Sunday 11th, crossing into the Republic and moving through Louth , Meath and north county Dublin before finishing on Upper Merrion Street.
