RTÉ SPORTS AWARDS:IRELAND'S GRAND Slam-winning captain and Heineken Cup winner Brian O'Driscoll was named RTÉ Sportsperson of the Year last night.

The Dubliner captained Ireland to their first Grand Slam since 1948, was voted RBS Six Nations player of the tournament and, two months later, played a pivotal role in Leinster’s Heineken Cup victory.

The RTÉ Sport Team of the Year award went to the Irish international rugby team.

Unbeaten in 2009, in addition to their Grand Slam win – the first in 61 years – they overcame world champions South Africa at Croke Park.
