Danny O'Connor scored a superb winning goal in the second half as Drogheda United advanced to the second round of the League Cup.
It took Dundalk just eight minutes to open the scoring when Ger Robinson fired home from close range from a rightwing Jonathan Prizeman cross.
But the game came to life after the break when O'Connor put the home side level.
