SCOTLAND'S emerging players were exposed to the realities of at the highest level as New South Wales romped to a seven try victory 48-11 at Murrayfield yesterday.

The tourists built up a halftime lead of 29-6 with tries from stand off Scott Bowen, winger Matthew Mostyn, serum half Anthony Ekert and centre Matthew Dixon.

After the break, Dixon raced in for his second touchdown but then the Scots, playing their best rugby of the match, finally broke through the determined Australian defence. Stand off Mark McKenzie was twice involved in a flowing move which broke down the blind side for his Stirling club mate Gordon Mackay to cross.

It was to be the Scots only touchdown as first full back Matthew Burke and then winger Alistair Murdoch added two further tries for the Australians.

But the Scots still earned praise from New South Wales coach Chris Hawkins, who admitted "Scotland are trying to do some thing very positive in rugby."
