Murphy loses his place as Robertson returns

Dublin welcome back Ian Robertson onto the team for Sunday's Leinster semi-final against Westmeath

Dublin welcome back Ian Robertson onto the team for Sunday's Leinster semi-final against Westmeath. The selection shows three changes from the team which comfortably defeated Wexford in the last round. Robertson, who failed a fitness test before throw-in the last day, returns in place of Vinnie Murphy.

Robertson is named at right corner forward. Other changes see Colin Moran replacing Enda Sheehy at centre forward and a vacancy in the left corner. Captain Dessie Farrell is in running for the position which would mean Declan Darcy dropping to the bench. If Farrell's hamstring complaint isn't cured, Darcy and Murphy will be considered.

Ciaran Whelan is named at centrefield after a week of speculation about his recovery from an ankle injury. If he fails to take his place, Sheehy is the most likely replacement.

The last team to be named for the weekend will be Derry whose selection is expected at around noon today. No reasons have been given for the delay and only one player from the side which started against Antrim in the drawn match, David O'Neill, will not be available. He is recovering from a viral illness.

Meanwhile, the first winners of the Gaelic Players' Association monthly awards, sponsored by Carphone Warehouse, are Derry footballer Anthony Tohill and Tipperary hurler John Leahy. Tohill captained his county to the National Football League whereas Leahy made a major contribution to the championship win over Waterford.

This weekend sees the commencement of the 2000 Feile Peil na nOg which is being held in Dublin. The annual under-14 football competition will have a participation of 130 teams including boys and girls in a total of 3,120 children. It commences this evening with a parade from Parnell Square at 6.30. Matches will be played tomorrow and Sunday with the finals on Monday.

Meanwhile, Sligo are almost certain to be without full back Nigel Clancy for Sunday week's Connacht senior football championship semi-final against Galway at Markievicz Park.

A broken collar bone kept the Ballymote man out of the side that beat champions, Mayo in the quarter-final. The injury had been responding well to treatment and it was hoped that Clancy would be fit to face Galway, but another knock in training has resulted in a hairline fracture of the collar bone.

Colin White from the Drumcliffe/Rosses Point club might have been in line to replace Clancy in the last line of defence, but he injured his shoulder in the same training session and is now also a doubtful starter.

Better news concerns Mark Cosgrove and Brian Walsh, who have resumed training following injuries sustained in the quarter-final.
