NL Premier Division - Monaghan United 1 Galway 2: After dominating the first half-hour and scoring in the sixth minute, Monaghan United let Galway back into this league match at Century Homes Park yesterday, to trail 2-1 at the end of it.

The home side went ahead when Galway keeper Robert Forde, who started the season with Monaghan, blocked but failed to hold Jonathan King's low drive. King followed up and, in a clash in which Forde was injured, the ball spun high into the air to be headed home by Stephen Murphy.

Galway found their feet towards the interval. In the 39th minute they equalised when Alan Murphy dribbled past three defenders to beat Gareth Downey from eight yards range.

A few minutes later, a great save by Downey foiled Mike Quirke when he broke through; but Galway took the lead in the second minute of time added on at the interval when Murphy took a pass from Mark Herrick and netted unchallenged with the home defence claiming off-side.
