Mount Sion kept Waterford hurling on a roll with victory over Limerick champions Ahane in the first round of the Munster club championship at Walsh Park on Saturday.

But the Waterford title holders, with a generous sprinkling of county players, needed a stroke of luck early in the second half to turn the game in their favour. That came after 37 minutes when Ahane corner back Alan Collins deflected an Eoin McGrath centre into his own net. Ahane had been a point ahead at that stage after the sides were level at half-time, 14 (for Mount Sion) to 0-7.
