Shelbourne veteran defender Mick Neville was sent off as the Dublin club crashed out of the League Cup to First Division Galway United at Tolka Park last night.
Neville won't thank his goalkeeper Alan Gough for his 67th-minute dismissal for a socalled professional foul on Barbados international Eric Levine, who scored both Galway goals.
Gough came 30 yards from his goal and then sliced a clearance which ran for Levine who looked certain to score before Neville tripped him. Cork referee Aidan O'Regan had little option but to send him off.
Shelbourne took a fortuitous lead in the 11th minute as a result of an own goal by John Brennan, who directed the ball to the net after Dessie Baker got a slight touch to Pat Fenlon's inswinging corner.
However, Shelbourne were stunned in the 43rd minute when Galway struck back with a remarkable goal from Levine. Declan Geoghegan was slow to clear a ball down Shelbourne's left flank and Levine beat him to it to unleash a shot from over 25 yards that flew over Gough's head and into the roof of the net.
Three minutes after Neville's dismissal, Levine struck for his second and Galway's winning goal. He looked offside after he blocked a shot from his captain Ollie Neary before turning on the ball and shooting past Gough.
