MICKEY MORAN has been forced to step down as manager of Leitrim football due to illness

MICKEY MORAN has been forced to step down as manager of Leitrim football due to illness. He was in his fourth year as manager of the county’s side.

“All in Leitrim GAA fraternity wish him a speedy return to full health,” said a statement from the county board.

Elsewhere, Tyrone’s former footballer of the year Seán Cavanagh has spoken out about the controversial scenes at the county’s league final between Carrickmore and Dromore earlier this month, which have attracted a variety of proposed suspensions.

“It seems to be something that’s becoming more and more prevalent in the GAA, especially in club games. Stewardship in club games needs to be looked at, along with the protection of referees and the whole issue of respect both on and off the pitch.

“All it takes is making an example of one or two teams or a particular county. I think the GAA has to come down hard on this.”
