Milan derby ends in stalemate

Ezequiel Schelotto’s second-half equaliser salvaged a point for Inter Milan as AC Milan had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

The Serie A stalemate will be seen as little help to either club’s hopes of gaining a Champions League place for next season, and gives Lazio the chance to take third place when they face second-bottom Pescara tonight.

AC Milan, for whom Mario Balotelli was a threat in attack, stand third, a point ahead of Lazio and Inter but six points adrift of second-placed Napoli.

Stephan El Shaarawy scored the opener for Milan with a dipping left-footed drive in the 21st minute.

But substitute Schelotto made an impact, heading in after 72 minutes to ensure Inter would not end empty-handed.

Juventus extended their lead to seven points with a 3-0 home win over Siena. Stephan Lichtsteiner scored a 30th-minute opener and Sebastian Giovinco made it 2-0 after 74 minutes, with Paul Pogba netting a third goal in the dying stages.

Beckham debut

David Beckham enjoyed a winning Paris St Germain debut as goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu produced an outstanding performance in a 2-0 victory over Ligue 1 title rivals Olympique Marseille .

The 37-year-old former England captain, who has joined the club on a five-month deal, replaced Javier Pastore in the 75th minute. Beckham immediately produced a trademark long pass to Ezequiel Lavezzi before joining in with a sterling defensive performance.

PSG opened the scoring thanks to a bizarre Nicolas Nkoulou own goal in the 12th minute as the ball rolled into the net after Joey Barton and the Cameroon centre-back had diverted a Lucas attempt.

Marseille dominated possession but Italy reserve goalkeeper Sirigu made superb saves to preserve the leaders’ advantage until Zlatan Ibrahimovic sealed victory with the second goal from close range in stoppage time.

PSG have 54 points from 26 games, three ahead of Olympique Lyon who earlier beat Lorient 3-1 thanks to goals by Lisandro Lopez, Rachid Ghezzal and Arnold Mvuemba.
