Sigerson Cup quarter-final: A slick UCC qualified to meet Sligo IT in the Sigerson Cup semi-finals following an emphatic victory over a disappointing Garda College at the Mardyke yesterday.

The Cork students conceded a couple of early points to Nemo Rangers' James Masters, but despite playing against the strong wind managed to lead by double scores at the interval, 0-8 to 0-4.

Dylan Mehigan gave UCC a pronounced advantage at midfield and left half back John Wycherley was prominent when surging forward, scoring an outstanding point following a typical run 10 minutes before the break.

UCC struggled to put their running game together on the resumption and needed a timely 47th-minute save from goalkeeper David McInerney to deflect a goal-bound shot by Darren Rooney of Laois around the post.

Garda College, who trailed 0-11 to 0-6 at that point, were then reduced to 14 players after full forward Patrick Mulvihill was sent off following a second bookable offence.

UCC finished the game on top, adding two more points in injury-time, including a length-of-the-field move which culminated in a superb score from Ronan Hussey.
