Pat McEnaney of Monaghan has been named as referee for this year's All-Ireland football final between Galway and Kerry on Sunday week. McEnaney took charge of the 1996 final between Mayo and Meath which went to a replay. Given the new rules governing replays, he will not be reappointed if this year's final ends in a draw.

Michael Monaghan of Kildare will referee the Cork-Mayo minor final.

Meanwhile, Sean Boylan has been given the green light to continue as Meath manager. It will be Boylan's 19th successive year in the position during which time Meath have won four All-Ireland titles, seven Leinster titles and three national leagues.

One of Boylan's selectors in the last five years, Frank Foley, has stepped down and some former county players, including Sean Kelly, have been mentioned to fill the vacancy. The other selector, Eamonn O'Brien, is expected to stay on.
