Derry City - 2 UCD - 0:   Derry City deservedly took full points in their opening match of the season, a game in which Peter Hutton equalled the northern club's record with his 518th appearance.

In what proved a game of few clearcut chances, the home side enjoyed the lion's share of what was available.

Indeed, the only highlight of a drab first half was the goal which separated the teams at the break and it was a fluent move which reaped handsome dividends.

Derry full back Seán Hargan found Ciarán Martyn in the 38th minute and the midfielder produced a superb finish to beat Darren Quigley in the UCD goal.
