Undaunted will revert back to hurdles at the Punchestown next week after overcoming very testing conditions at Clonmel yesterday to take the opening Templemore Maiden.

Kevin Manning sent the son of Sadler's Wells to the front on the home bend in the two-mile event and was just hand ridden to hold Athas Liath by three-quarters of a length. Naul trainer Stephen Mahon, who has enjoyed a fruitful spell recently with his National Hunt team but was saddling his first flat winner here, said: "He hates that ground but his class got him through. He will now go for the Ellier Developments Ltd Hurdle (a winners' race for four-year-olds) at Punchestown next Friday. Declan McDonogh, third behind Shane Kelly in the apprentice championship last term with 26 winners, opened his account for the new campaign when Bypharbeanri readily landed the Mountain Handicap. Donnie Hassett's dualpurpose grey led over a furlong out and drew clear for an impressive six-length success over the front-running Storm Gem.

Osprey Ridge landed a gamble - 4 to 1 to 9 to 4 favourite - in the Nenagh Handicap. Stephen Craine, sporting the Ridgewood Pearl colours of Anne Coughlan, had the six-year-old up with the pace throughout.
