Kevin Maggs should have proved his fitness emphatically in front of Ireland assistant coach Eddie O'Sullivan with a fine display for Bath against London Irish at the Stoop. Maggs scored a try in his team's 64-16 defeat of Irish. It proved a less salubrious afternoon for the home side's three Irish players, Conor O'Shea, Kieron Campbell and Kieron Dawson. The latter was replaced after 54 minutes by Australian Andrew Mower. Ireland under-21 hooker Adrian Flavin came on as a 60th minute replacement.

Ireland A full back Geordan Murphy showed that he is over his shoulder problem with a fine performance in Leicester's victory over Bedford. Murphy kicked three conversions and two penalties in Leicester's 32-22 win. Ireland flanker Simon Easterby scored a try for Llanelli and was impressive in their victory 57-21 victory over Glasgow Caledonians.
