NUI Maynooth 0-10 University of Limerick 0-9: Francis Magee's eight-point haul was hugely instrumental for NUI Maynooth as they defeated 14-man University of Limerick in Limerick yesterday.

The Longford senior player took advantage of the strong wind in the first half to knock over five pointed frees, and had another superb effort from play. And with Maurice Kennedy and Mark Cahill also finding their range, Maynooth held an 0-8 to 0-2 lead at the interval.

Declan and Kevin O'Sullivan raised UL hopes when they cut the deficit to four within eight minutes of the restart, but life became more difficult for them when Limerick county player Pat Donnelly was sent off for a second yellow card.

They pulled themselves together for Peter Thornley to hit two great scores to leave just one point between the teams, 0-9 to 0-8, after 54 minutes but Magee took the pressure off Maynooth when he was on target from a free.
