Lights on for Test series

NEWS ROUND-UP: THE INTERNATIONAL Rules series has been confirmed for next autumn. The GAA and AFL made a joint announcement yesterday that the Tests would be played in October, on the 23rd and 30th in Limerick's Gaelic Grounds and Croke Park – both under lights.

Last year’s series was called off when the AFL asked not to travel due to the economic downturn.

Croke Park’s Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) has proposed a suspension of eight weeks for Paul Galvin after reviewing the referee’s report from last weekend’s Cork-Kerry NFL match in Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

Galvin’s offence, for which he received a red card, is the second such infraction in the past year, and as a result the customary four-week ban has been doubled.

It is likely the 2009 footballer of the year will look for a hearing to dispute the punishment. Cork’s Eoin Cadogan, who was sent off in the same incident, is likely to receive four weeks, as proposed.

Mayo’s Mark Ronaldson is another likely to look for a hearing after the CCCC proposed a four-week ban arising out of video evidence from last week’s NFL match with Tyrone.
