Hockey: The Leinster Branch of the Irish Hockey Association has announced that its women's league programme will resume on March 24th and that it has not ruled out the possibility of the Leinster Senior Cup final going ahead on St Patrick's Day, writes Mary Hannigan. The IHA is due to advise the branches later this week on when they should resume their programmes but Leinster have taken their decision independently.
Motor Sport: The legislation which will force RTE to blank out tobacco sponsorship in their Formula One television coverage will probably not come into force until some time next year, as the Bill will not be published until the middle of this year, writes Johnny Watterson. The Bill will require RTE to use new technology to erase offending logos.
Cycling: Mark Scanlon, the 1998 junior world champion, will make his 2001 debut this Sunday with the Irish team in the GP de Lillers in France, reports Shane Stokes. The 20-year-old joins Morgan Fox, Brian Kenneally, Tommy Evans, Michael McNena and Stephen O'Sullivan.
Swimming: The Home Nations international schools championships fixed for Wrexham are off the agenda following Swim Ireland instructions to all its affiliated clubs to postpone meets for the duration of the foot-and-mouth crisis, reports Pat Roche. Next week's Leinster distance championships and the national squad camp in Limerick are also affected.

Cricket: The death has occurred of Frank Morrison (79), who for many years was an influential figure in the development of Irish schoolboy cricket in Leinster and at international level, writes Karl Johnston. He had been ill for some time. Sincere sympathy is extended to his family.
