CHRISTOPHE LAMAISON, France's man of the match in their 47-20 win over Scotland, was cited by the Scottish Rugby Union (SRU) yesterday for a tackle which put Craig Chalmers in hospital. Out-half Chalmers was stretchered off motionless following the tackle in the 53rd minute. However Lamaison told the French television station Antenne 2, yesterday: "I'm very surprised at the Scottish rugby federation's decision. I don't think I did anything wrong and I think we should talk about it."
The incident took place during the build-up to Alan Tait's second try, with Chalmers delivering the scoring pass to his centre. The SRU watched a video of the incident which apparently shows Lamaison's shoulder crashing into Chalmers's neck.
A statement from the SRU read: "Following an incident in which Craig Chalmers was injured in yesterday's match, the SRU has cited Christophe Lamaison having studied video evidence.
"The FFR (French Rugby Federation) has been informed and the matter will now be dealt with through the Five Nations by the match commissioner.
"The SRU's only concern is player welfare and deeply regrets having to take this action. The safety of players is paramount and foul play cannot be tolerated at any level of the game."
