Leinster Senior Cup first-timers Killeen golf club made it a memorable debut in the Bulmers Irish Senior Cup when qualifying for the finals at Portmarnock on August 21st and 22nd. After beating Killiney in the opening round, Killeen were surprise 3 1/2-1 1/2 winners over seasoned campaigners Newlands before beating last year's All-Ireland Junior Cup winners Old Conna 4-1 in the third round.

Killeen will now play Grange in the quarter-finals while the other qualifiers, Hermitage, will meet Co Louth. Blainroe were surprise winners at Rosslare where they knocked out the Eddie Power-led Kilkenny. UCD are having their best senior cup run for years and qualified at Skerries with victories over the host club, Howth and Elm Park. Portmarnock, now with home advantage in the playoffs, were well pleased with their wins over Donabate, and old rivals Sutton and The Island.

The draw for the quarter finals is: Grange v Killeen; Hermitage v Co Louth; Portmarnock v Curragh winners; UCD v Blainroe.
