ROY KEANE appears to be heading into more controversy after accusing the FAI of an error of judgment in agreeing to undertake a three-match American tour last summer.

In a documentary on his career to be shown by RTE next Monday evening, he described the US Cup tournament, in which Ireland took part, as "mickey mouse" and said that the decision to participate was motivated purely by money.

Keane failed to turn up for the tour after being named as captain for the first time, occasioning a rift with manager Mick McCarthy which lasted for some months.

The incident had such an effect on the public that, on his return to the team against Iceland at Lnnsdowne Road in November, he was booed by the crowd - the first Ireland player to be treated in this manner in a game in Dublin.

In the programme entitled Have Boots Will Travel, Keane is also critical of the tactics employed by Jack Chnrlton. He says that it took him more than 30 games under Charlton to adjust to international football and that it was only in the last three or four games, that he felt comfortable in the national team.

Questioned on his fiery temperament and his frequent brushes with authority, he said: "I cannot change the way I am - if I tried to do so I would be back in the National League next season."

The programme contains tributes to Keane by both Charlton and Alex Ferguson, who states that Keane will soon captain Manchester United.

The former Shamrock Rovers and Dundalk player Dave Connell has taken over as manager of Limerick FC with whom he has played for the last three seasons. On the move from Limerick is midfielder Paul Carr, who has caught the eye of Waterford boss, Tommy Lynch.
