NATIONAL Hunt jockey Richard Davis died in hospital last night after falling from his horse.

He failed to recover from injuries he sustained when his mount Mr Sox fell at the first fence in yesterday's Fisherton Novices' Handicap Chase at Southwell, Notts.

Davis, 27, was crushed by the horse after it rolled on top of him. He was knocked out for several minutes but regained consciousness before being taken to the Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham.

He underwent surgery for internal bleeding but doctors were unable to save him.
