GAA Championships

The GAA's reform of the football championship led to a big increase in televised games. With the hurling championship following suit this year, and the idea of floodlit matches being toyed with in the long term, the coverage is set to grow and grow.

World Cup

After TV3 stole in to take the away games in the last European qualifiers, the national broadcaster made sure it got all the 2002 qualifiers. Messrs O'Herlihy, Dunphy, Giles and Brady can now look forward to stealing the show at the finals in Japan and Korea.

Six Nations and European Cup

Lack of access to England home games demonstrates Sky's threat, but the popularity of the European Cup has more than compensated. McGuirk, Hook and Pope have also provided an entertaining sideshow to the station's coverage of the sport.
