GORAN Ivanisevic won the quickest final in ATP Tour history as he made short work of Sergi Bruguera 6-2 6-2 in the Italian Indoors final yesterday - although there was some dispute over exactly how long the match lasted.

While officials clocked 47 minutes for the top seed to overcome his Spanish opponent, television tapes indicated the match lasted only 43 minutes 21 seconds.

Amid whistles of the crowd, disappointed with the quick and unspectacular outcome of the final, the 25-year-old big-serving Croat dominated the match relying on his powerful, precise serve and on deep backhand passing shots, to land his second title of 1997.
