Irish player of the week

Take a bow Jimmy O'Connor, now officially the scorer of the fastest hat-trick of all time

Take a bow Jimmy O'Connor, now officially the scorer of the fastest hat-trick of all time. The feat took place 32 years and one month ago (yes, it's the Player of the WEEK award, but we didn't say which week) but it's only now that a campaign by a group of Shelbourne supporters has born fruit with O'Connor finally being credited for his achievement in the newly published Millennium 2000 issue of the Guinness Book of Records (page 288).

The hat-trick was scored at Dalymount Park on November 19th, 1967, when O'Connor was playing for Shelbourne against Bohemians - Bohs were 2-0 up at half-time but the inside right's three goals in the space of 2 minutes and 14 seconds in the second half won the game and earned him a place in football history.

You can read more about O'Connor and the campaign to have his feat recognised in the news' section of ShelsWeb (http://www.connect.ie/users/shels/shels.htm).
