IRISH internationals Claire Curran and John Doran, who are due to embark on US tennis scholarships, are projecting an excellent image of Irish tennis in the Lifestyle sponsored ITF Junior World ranking series at Riverview.

Both players are poised to pick up a further 30 singles ranking points in finals this morning (10.0 a.m.). It will be the second successive time for both to reach ITF deciders over the past couple of weeks and the fourth time in all for Curran to achieve the feat.

Curran's challenge looked shaky enough at the start of her match against the British prospect Sarah Gregg. She lost the first set but subsequently moved her opponent about with a varied shot selection to open up the court well for a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 win.

John Doran's big game left Nick Malone struggling but the match was sufficiently competitive to suggest that Malone's developing game would have gained from the experience.

While Doran is set for a four year scholarship in Harvard, Curran will be given the option at Berkeley University California to move out on to the circuits after two years if she wishes.

Doran and Joe Green, his cousin who is also going to Harvard next month, lost out in the doubles final to British players Daniel Kiernan and John Monk, who were docked a penalty point as well as being warned for court violation.
