BOXING:Irish light-flyweight Jason McKay was edged out by Muhammad Ali at the Rochestown Park Hotel in Cork on Saturday night.
But that didn’t stop Ireland’s young prospects recording a morale boosting 13-6 win over England ahead of next month’s European Junior Championships in Bulgaria. McKay was in against England’s Muhammad Ali but lost a cracking contest on points in Saturday’s 19-bout international on Leeside.
However, Ireland’s Brendan Irvine, Willie Donoghue, Josie McDonagh, Kalum McConville, James Cleary, John Joyce, Wayne Kelly, Daryl Byrne, and Danny Keating won.
Lewis Crocker, Irish captain Luke Thomas, Brian Wall and Aaron Kelly also had their hands raised in victory for Ireland on the night.
