TENNIS:Ireland won their third match in Pool A of the Europe/African Zone III Davis Cup series yesterday at the Smash Club in Cairo, writes Johnny Watterson.

Conor Niland, Louk and Kevin Sorensen and John McGahon defeated Bosnia/Herzegovina for their third win from three, which gains them automatic promotion to Group II of the same world zone for next year's competition.

Ireland had already defeated Lithuania and Moldova, so the 3-0 win yesterday put them top of the pool. It marks immediate success for the new non-playing captain, Seán Sorensen, father of Louk and Kevin and a former Irish Davis Cup player himself.

Niland again won his singles match against Zlatan Kadric, 6-2, 6-4. Louk Sorensen sealed promotion with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Aleksander Maric.
