Scotland coach Ian McGeechan faced his inquisitors at Murrayfield yesterday and insisted there was no embarrassment attached to the David Hilton `grannygate' scandal.

Instead of making a firm decision on Hilton's participation in the Calcutta Cup clash with England on April 2nd, McGeechan opted to allow the International Rugby Board to resolve the prop forward's international future.

Hilton, who this week learned that his grandfather was born in Bristol, rather than Edinburgh as he originally thought, faces an anxious weekend before the IRB annual meeting gets under way in Dublin next week. Hilton has appeared in 41 Tests for Scotland.
