When last we met– United beat Inter 3-1 on aggregate at the quarter-final stage of the Champions League in 1999 when they went on to win the trophy.

Two goals from Dwight Yorke in the first leg at Old Trafford sent United to the San Siro in good shape, but they needed a Paul Scholes equaliser two minutes from time to settle nervy tummies after Nicola Ventola’s goal had brought Inter back into the tie. From the starting line-ups in both legs only United’s Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville and Inter’s Javier Zanetti remain at the clubs.

We meet again: Jose Mourinho (Porto and Chelsea) and Alex Ferguson have met 12 times, and Ferguson has only got the better of the Portuguese upstart once (if you exclude that 2007 Community Shield victory on penalties, after a 1-1 draw, which we do).
