Mayo AND Connacht champions Hollymount salvaged a draw with Shelmalier in yesterday's thrilling All-Ireland club senior final in Banagher. The Wexford women, assisted by the gale-force wind, were 1-2 ahead after 10 minutes, the goal coming from the outstanding Michelle Hearne after six minutes.

But the Mayo club settled down and played some great possession football before All Star Christina Heffernan scored Mayo's goal. Shelmalier led by 1-6 to 1-2 at the break, but failed to score in the second half. Mayo cut the deficit back to one point by the 43rd minute, but great defending by the Wexford champions denied Hollymount the equaliser until Heffernan's point four minutes from the end.
