Two first-half tries helped Portumna CS defeat St Saran's, Ferbane, in the Connacht Schools Senior Development League final at Garbally College, Ballinasloe, yesterday.

Portumna took the lead after five minutes with a Michael O'Carroll penalty and six minutes later Kevin Hayes crossed for the first try.

Hayes went over for his second try on the quarter-hour and O'Carroll converted for a 15-0 halftime lead. Their third try arrived on 44 minutes when left winger, Michael McKeon, touched down and O'Carroll was again successful with the conversion. St Saran's efforts were rewarded after 51 minutes with a deserved consolation try from number eight, David Kelly, outhalf Ronan Daly narrowly missed the conversion
