Padraig Harrington will have to battle to make tomorrow evening’s cut in the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am after reaching the turn at three-over today. Only the top 60 players will contest Sunday’s final round and Harrington is currently in 140th position.

Playing at Pebble Beach itself – yesterday’s opening round of 74 came at Poppy Hills while the Dubliner will be at Spyglass Hill tomorrow – Harrington mixed two bogeys with a birdie in his opening nine holes to drop further down the pecking order.

The reigning British Open and US PGA champion, playing with JP McManus and alongside the other Irish team of Paul McGinley and Dermot Desmond, trails Retief Goosen and Dustin Johnson by 12 strokes.

Both are at nine-under with Goosen already five-under for today’s round after just 11 holes at Pebble Beach. McGinley, at level par, is in a share of 90th place.
