Griffin in form

What a summer it has been for Clontarf's Maire Griffin

What a summer it has been for Clontarf's Maire Griffin. So successful has her season been that she'll soon have to buy a new trophy cabinet! It has been just one win after another. Not only has she won in her own club of Clontarf, but she has also collected a number of wins around the country.

In Clontarf alone, the 12 handicapper has won four different singles competitions over the past few months. Only last week she won twice at the North Dublin club.

And to top that last week she also won in Foxrock when she partnered her clubmate Noelle Walls to victory in the Personal Touch semi-open Foursomes with a score of 34 points. Earlier in the summer she also partnered Dermot McArdle to victory in a mixed competition in Courtown with a great score of 64 1/2.

Sadly, however, there was some disappointment to her success-laden season. Maire had been part of the Clontarf side that reached the final of the Ulster Bank All-Ireland Ladies fourball Championship in Rathsallagh, a competition that began last April. But they lost the decider 2-1 to Gort.

However, all told it has been an incredible season by anybody's standards. And her performances in the various singles competitions in Clontarf recently are likely to see a shot or two shaved off her handicap.
