JOHN GOSDEN returned to the race in which he unveiled Benny The Dip a year ago to produce another useful prospect in Muhtathir at Sandown yesterday.

He improved on his Derby winner's first time out second to Putra to land the first seven furlong maiden for two-year-olds with the son of Elmaamul, the Eclipse winner and Derby third.

With the benefit of a run at Newmarket, Muhtathir led three furlongs out to defeat the Henry Cecil-trained newcomer Craigsteel by half a length.

The colt, whose dam won the May Hill Stakes, is highly rated by his trainer
