Séamus Power’s run of made cuts comes to an end in Mississippi

Waterford man made a late double bogey to end hopes of getting into the weekend

Séamus Power’s run of 11 made cuts in a row came to an end with a second round of 70 which left him at two under and three off the mark at the Sanderson Farms Championship in Mississippi.

It’s the first time the Waterford man has missed a cut since the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am last February during a season in which he claimed his first PGA Tour win.

Power reached the turn at one under for the day on Friday and got to three under for the tournament with birdies on the 13th, 15th and 16th after a bogey at the 11th to move within a shot of the cut mark.

However, a bogey a par at the 17th and a bogey at the 18th put paid to his chances.

At the top of the leaderboard, Will Zalatoris rocketed into the lead with a stellar 11-under 61 on Friday, joining Nick Watney and Sahith Theegala at the top.

Starting on the back nine, Zalatoris got off to a quick start with back-to-back birdies before picking up another three shots to head into the turn on five under.

The American then carded six more birdies on the front nine, including a run of four straight, to join his compatriots one shot clear on 13-under at the halfway mark of the tournament.
