Peter Lawrie misses card by one stroke at Tour School

Peter Lawrie’s bid to win back his European Tour card agonisingly came up short by just one stroke on the final day of Tour School in Spain.

The 40-year-old Dubliner carded a one-under-par 71 in the sixth and final round to move to six under at PGA Catalunya and a tie for 28th position. The top 25 players and ties earned their full cards for next season.

Simon Thornton ended the week a shot further back from Lawrie on five under after also carding a final round of 71. Gareth Maybin was the third Irish player to sign for a 71 and he finished up on one under, while Waterford's Kevin Phelan struggled to a four-over 76 to end on level par.

Italy’s Alessandro Tadini (68), America’s Daniel Woltman (69) and France’s Cyril Bouniol (73) grabbed the last three golden tickets, finishing up on seven under.

Finland's Mikko Korhonen claimed victory in Girona, carding a five-under 67 to end up on 20 under, two clear of Argentina's Ricardo Gonzalez and Italy's Renato Paratore.

Golfers from 12 countries won cards, with eight coming from England and five from Spain. Sweden and Italy both had three qualifiers and there were two from Australia.
