Fota Island to host 2014 Irish Open

European Tour will confirm return to Cork later this week

Fota Island in Cork will be named as the host course for the 2014 Irish Open later this week.

The resort staged both the 2001 and 2002 Irish Opens, won by Colin Montgomerie and Soren Hansen respectively, and has been expected to take over as host venue from Carton House in Kildare,

Fota Island was sold venue later this weekby Nama to Kang Family Worldwide last August, with the Chinese hoteliers paying €21 million for the property.

The event will take place from June 19th-22nd in the week following the US Open at Pinehurst in North Carolina.
