Co Sligo to meet Rosapenna in Senior Cup final

Co Sligo Golf club will meet Rosapenna in the final of the Senior Cup, the most prestigious of the competitions in the AIG sponsored, GUI All Ireland Cups and Shields.

The Connacht champions forged what appeared at one stage to be an unlikely victory in a keenly fought contest on a day of beautiful sunshine at Royal Tara Golf Club. Arguably the decisive game was the top match where Declan Reidy came from two down with four to play against Cork's Ian O'Flynn to win on the home green.

He won the 15th and 17th holes with pars and a regulation figure on the par-five 18th was good enough to claim a one-hole victory. The win was sealed in the bottom match when Steffan O'Hara prevailed by one hole against John Hickey.

In the other semi-final Ulster champions, Rosapenna, surprised Carton House, recovering from losing the top match where Shane McGlynn gave the Kildare club an early advantage to take the next three matches and victory.

In the Pierce Purcell Final, Clare minnows Spanish Point proved too strong for Connacht champions Claremorris.
