MEN'S HOCKEY WEEKEND PREVIEW:THE BIG game of the weekend takes place at Serpentine Avenue tomorrow when Glenanne travel over to Ballsbridge to meet Pembroke in the Leinster Senior League. The home side head the league table but Glenanne, with a number of matches in hand, will hope to put a dent in what many see as Pembroke's formidable title challenge. The latter have now topped the 50-goal mark after eight matches.

Glenanne’s tendency has been to win matches but concede goals and there is no doubt they will have to tighten up in this meeting.

Pembroke earned a handy 3-0 win over Monkstown in midweek to push them to the top and they now remain unbeaten in eight matches, with Corinthians chasing in second place.

Three Rock Rovers, who are in third position and still very much in the title hunt, have a meeting with Clontarf at Grange Road and will then rest up before meeting the students of UCD on Sunday in the Mills Cup.

Several clubs have two matches over the weekend, with Glenanne also lining out again against Railway Union at Park Avenue in the Leinster Senior Cup. Mid-table YMCA will be looking for a double, with Fingal in their sights first up in the league tomorrow and then Navan in the cup on Sunday.

Over all it is a busy weekend, with some of the Division Two clubs trying to step up in the cup and take a notable scalp.

The Dún Laoghaire derby between Avoca and neighbours Monkstown at Rathdown on Sunday afternoon should attract some interest, with home side Monkstown hot favourites to go through to the next round. Avoca also meet Trinity in an important league match on Saturday in what is shaping up to be quite a battle for promotion next season.
