Yorkshire born Robert Giles hold the overnight lead going into the final round of the Sherry Fitzgerald Irish PGA Championship at Druids Heath in County Wicklow.

After a day in which the wind sent scores soaring Giles kept his cool for a level par 71 and holds a three shot lead on three under.

A birdie at the last consolidated his position as many of his challengers fell away. The biggest casualty of the day was former champion Eamonn Darcy, who started the day in great shape, three shots off the lead.

Nine bogeys and a triple bogey, en route to an 82 dropped him down the field and 12 shots off the pace.  His playing partner, Philip Walton, also a previous winner, fared somewhat better but a 75 leaves him five shots off the pace.

Order of merit leader Simon Thornton (72) is one of a group of five players, three back from Giles.  A wonderful run of four birdies in five holes around the turn promised much but ultimately he too fell away with two bogeys over the closing holes. Amongst those three back is Ashbourne's John Dwyer, whose 69 was the low round of the day

Overnight leader, David Mortimer, shot 76 and never really got to grips with the strong wind.  A birdie at the last helped salvage a little from his  round.
