Westmeath’s Barry Kelly to take charge of hurling final

Westmeath referee Barry Kelly will officiate at a fourth All-Ireland hurling final on September 7th for the meeting of Kilkenny and Tipperary at Croke Park.

It will also be the fourth time that Kelly has taken charge of a decider involving Kilkenny after refereeing the their finals against Cork (2006), Waterford (2008) and the 2012 clash with Galway.

In this year’s hurling championship, the St Oliver Plunkett’s clubman took charge of the quarter-final between Limerick and Wexford, the Leinster Senior Hurling Final between Dublin and Kilkenny and the Munster semi-final meeting of Tipperary v Limerick.

His umpires on the day will be Séamus O’Brien, Michael Coyle (both St Oliver Plunkett’s), Paddy Walsh (Clonkill) and Paul Reville (Turin).

Offaly's Brian Gavin will be the standby referee. The other linesman is Colm Lyons (Cork) and the sideline official will be Cathal McAllsiter (Cork).

Fergal Horgan of Tipperary will officiate in the minor game between Kilkenny and Limerick.
