Kevin Moran calls time on Waterford intercounty career after 16 years

Kevin Moran has called time on his intercounty career with Waterford after 16 seasons but the34-year-old will continue to hurl for his club De La Salle.

Moran made his Waterford debut as an 18-year-old in 2006 just weeks before winning the first of two Fitzgibbon Cups with Waterford Institute of Technology.

He went on to become a mainstay of Waterford teams, winning two Munster titles and playing in two All-Ireland finals, captaining the side in the 2017 defeat to Galway in which he scored a goal early on. He also captained his county to the 2015 league title and was a panel member of the side that won the league in 2007. He was awarded two All Stars during his career.

In a statement released by the Waterford County Board, Moran said: “After 16 years I have decided the time is right for me to step away from intercounty hurling to concentrate on putting more time into my club DLS.

“I would like to thank everyone that has been involved with all the Waterford senior hurling teams during my time on county panels.

“In particular I would like to thank the Waterford fans, my club DLS, family, friends and my wife Aoife for being so supportive through all the good and bad days.

"I would really like to wish all the very best to Liam Cahill and all the Waterford backroom and panel for next year. Up the Déise."
