Dublin make Walsh Cup final after beating Laois in hard-fought tie

Dublin, champions two years ago, are through to the Walsh Cup final thanks to the accuracy of corner forward David Treacy who contributed nine of his sides 18 points. Much had been expected of the home team and a big crowd enjoyed a hard-fought battle that caught fire in the second-half.

Dublin took an early lead with a point by Treacy and further points by Ciarán McBride, Conal Keaney and Niall McMorrow.

Neil Foyle broke the scoring sequence, but Keaney hammered home a Dublin goal after eight minutes.

Laois came more into the game with points from Stephen Maher and Matthew Whelan but Dublin responded with further points and were in front 1-9 to 0-6 at the break.

Both sides made a double substitution and the introduction of Zane Keenan lifted the home team. Dublin were reduced to 14 after full back Michael Carton was sent off. Keenan then hammered a penalty past Gary Maguire.

Laois cut the deficit to four points, but a goal by Eamon Dillon ensured that the Dubliners will play Galway on Saturday in Croke Park.
