World Cup Qualifying Group Five : Scotland captain Barry Ferguson insists Walter Smith's men can survive the absence of defender Christian Dailly to win their crucial World Cup qualifier in Norway on Wednesday.

The Scots' qualification hopes were left hanging by a thread at Hampden on Saturday after Italy substitute Fabio Grosso's 75th-minute strike cancelled out Kenny Miller's 15th-minute header.

Norway's impressive 3-2 win in Slovenia makes the task of qualifying even more difficult and the Scots will travel to Oslo for Wednesday's must-win match without the suspended Christian Dailly, who picked up his second booking in the tournament for a foul on Francesco Totti.

However, the Rangers midfielder claims Smith's men will shrug off the loss of Dailly and go into the game buoyed by new-found confidence.

He said: "Christian is doing a great job but that's why the gaffer picks such a big squad. Someone will come in and fill the gap.

"We certainly need the three points in Norway but we can go there with confidence.

"Everybody is enjoying training and enjoying playing again and playing for Scotland means a lot to us.

"And the supporters are behind us as well. The atmosphere was brilliant on Saturday and fans were great, they were like a 12th man to us.

"Even when Italy got the goal they were still backing us which was great."

Man of the match Kenny Miller, whose headed goal was his second in two matches, insists the Scots have nothing to fear in Norway after nearly overcoming the table-topping Italians.

He said: "Three points are a must but we can definitely be confident of going across there and getting them.

"If we can reproduce a performance like that then we have enough in our locker to go and win.

"I think everyone who pulled on the shirt did an outstanding job on Saturday.

"We worked our socks off which is what we have to do if we are going to get results against teams like Italy.

"And in the last few internationals I think we have been that little bit better on the ball in addition to our work rate."
