Dunboyne win for Scanlon

Mark Scanlon of the Ireland Junior team won the Dunboyne three-day race yesterday but failed to take all four stages.

After winning Saturday's opening stage by over two and a half minutes, clocking fastest time in Sunday morning's time trial and following up with a bunch sprint win in the afternoon the young Sligo man had to settle for second place behind Ger Madden of Obelisk at the end of yesterday's 74 miles.

Madden broke away with a mile to go and with the rest waiting for Scanlon to lead the chase he held on to win. Scanlon was best in the sprint for second. McCambridge held second place overall 2:57 behind Scanlon and Kenneally.

Stephen Roche donated a £700 frame from his range of bikes as a prize for the Dunboyne race and the organisers decided to have a raffle for it among those who entered and the winner was Hugh Kelly of the O'Mara's team in Limerick.
