DLSP booked the first semi final place in the Smithwicks, Old Belvedere Floodlit Cup last night with a hard earned victory over Dundalk on a very heavy pitch at Anglesea Road.

The junior one side, who were just pipped by Suttonians for promotion to Division Four of the AIL, dominated play for most of the first half but failed to convert that pressure into scores.

Out half Mark Benton was short with two kick able penalties in the 18th and 30th minute, while fullback Conor Poole was also wide of the target with his effort four minutes from half time.

The more experienced DLSP on the other hand showed no such reservations and their second worthwhile attack, just before the break, yielded a score.

A high tackle on centre, Karl Lillis, earned them a penalty inside the 22 which Stephen Gormley converted.

fourteen minutes into the second half, left wing Larry Egar gathered Co nor Poole's clearance and broke up field. The ball was moved to the right but when it was switched back to the left wing, Egar was on hand to cut inside the Dundalk cover for a fine try.

After that the DLSP pack, led ably by Ciaran Shanley, were in control and Ken Wheelock wrapped up proceedings with a Niall O'Riordan converted.
