FAI CUP THIRD ROUND DRAW:FRESH FROM beating UCC at their Palmerstown Commuity School base on Sunday to qualify, Leinster League outfit Glenville were handed a dream tie against Bohemians in last night's draw for the third round of the Fordsponsored FAI Cup.

Previously known as The Silver Granite, the club was only established in its current form 13 years ago and the game against the League of Ireland champions will be by far the biggest it has ever been involved in.

Representatives of the two sides are due to sort out the details of the match this morning, but Glenville club secretary David Lloyd admitted last night that it is all but certain that they will surrender home advantage to their opponents.

“It couldn’t have worked out better for us if we’d hand-picked the opposition,” he said afterwards.

“Well, maybe it could have been St Patrick’s Athletic who are more local. But we’re all in a bit of shock to be honest.

“It’s fantastic and we’ll talk to them, but it’s almost a no-brainer that the game will be played in Dalymount because we play in a school and while it’s a fantastic facility for football at the level we’re at, it wouldn’t be suitable at all for a game like this.”

The club has made considerable progress in recent years, steadily climbing the ladder under current manager James Russell, a cousin of UCD boss Martin, but are still only in the Leinster Senior League’s third division, making them the lowest ranked sides of any in the hat last night, according to Lloyd.

Russell and the players, he said, would be hugely excited by the prosect of the fixture although, he added, “the manager’s a bit of a stickler, he’ll probably be complaining that it won’t get the lads three points”.

Third Round Fixtures to be played weekend of June 6th
